(AllHipHop News) Some people are upset that Halle Bailey is playing Ariel in the forthcoming live-action The Little Mermaid. The African-American singer is set to play the lead character that was presented as Caucasian in the original 1989 animated version.
Freeform posted an open letter to the "Poor, Unfortunate Souls." The Walt Disney Company-owned network is home to the Grown-ish sitcom which features Halle Bailey, her sister Chloe Bailey, Yara Shahidi, Trevor Jackson, Diggy Simmons, and Luka Sabbat.
The Bailey siblings perform as the Grammy-nominated R&B duo Chloe x Halle. Their discography includes the 2018 album The Kids Are Alright. In addition, Chloe x Halle sang "America the Beautiful" at Super Bowl LIII in February.
Hamilton playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda is also attached to creating music for The Little Mermaid remake*.* He will be working with Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin).
