'Empire' Cast Reportedly Divided After Charges Dropped Against Jussie Smollett

What happens to the Jamal Lyon character now?

(AllHipHop News) Many people were shocked when news broke that all the charges filed against Jussie Smollett were dropped on Tuesday. The 36-year-old entertainer was accused of paying two men to orchestrate a fake hate crime attack against him.

Since the beginning Smollett maintained his innocent, and he reiterated that position outside the courthouse yesterday. The Empire writers' Twitter page reacted with support for the actor/singer after Cook County prosecutors announced they would not be pursuing the filing a false police report case.

Smollett's character, Jamal Lyon, was written off the final two episodes of this season's Empire following his arrest in February. There are reports that other individuals connected to the Fox drama are not ready to invite Smollett back to the series so quickly.

TMZ writes:

We're told there are a number of people on the "Empire" set who share the view that Jussie staged the attack and are shocked by the lack of consequences ... and don't [want] him back on the show. They are especially offended Jussie allegedly faked the attack to squeeze more money out of producers. The contingent who are angry at Jussie believes he's a liability to the show and should be cut if the show comes back for season 6.

Co-star Terrence Howard backed Smollett with a February 23rd Instagram post. Empire co-creator Lee Daniels is on record saying, "Me and my cast have experienced pain and anger and sadness and frustration and really don't know how to deal with it, you know?"
