‘Empire’ Reportedly Considers Suspending Jussie Smollett After Criminal Charges

The actor/musician may end up losing his job.

(AllHipHop News) According to representatives of Empire, the show was never considering eliminating Jussie Smollett's character Jamal Lyon from the Fox drama. Now that Smollett will be formally charged with filing a false police report in Chicago, Jamal may be removed from the series after all.

Variety reports sources close to the production say producers are considering whether to suspend Smollett following the news of his pending arrest. Previously, reports suggested Smollett's scenes for the remaining season 5 episodes being filmed have been cut back.

A Chicago Police Department spokesman announced prosecutors are pursuing a case against the actor. Anthony Guglielmi tweeted on Wednesday night, "Felony criminal charges have been approved by [Cook County State's Attorney's Office] against Jussie Smollett for Disorderly Conduct/Filing a False Police Report. Detectives will make contact with his legal team to negotiate a reasonable surrender for his arrest."

A bond hearing for Jussie Smollett is scheduled for 1:30 pm CT on Thursday. Smollett's legal team is expected to mount a defense against the allegations he staged a fake hate crime against himself.
