Listen to Jonathan Hay's "Lyrics Of Fury [Jazz Cover]".

(AllHipHop News) Thirty-one years ago, Eric B. & Rakim dropped their second studio LP, Follow The Leader. Producer Jonathan Hay is celebrating the Hip Hop classic from 1988 by re-imagining the entire album in the style of Jazz.

All of the songs from Follow the Leader were recreated using only instrumentation. According to Hay, mechanical licenses were granted for each record, so Eric B. & Rakim will be paid from the new project.

Hay worked with musicians Benny Reid, Mani Ajami, Mike Smith, Mike Baker, and Atlas Jenkins on the Jazz rendition of Follow the Leader. The collection is scheduled to be released on July 26.

The original Follow The Leader hosts the title track, "Microphone Fiend," "Lyrics of Fury," "The R," and "No Competition." Eric B. & Rakim's sophomore set reinforced the group's ascent following the success of Paid In Full a year earlier.

Thank you Johnathan Hay and fellow musicians, thank you, thank you. Wow! You all put together a wonderful body of work, revamped a classic album into a jazz style, I'm loving this. As someone who loves and appreciates jazz, I can really appreciate this project. Good job and well done.

Thank God someone has finally recognized the genius, even if it's 31 years later, that I and others from my generation realized everytime we'd listen to Eric B. & Rakim ! And jazz is the perfect idiom since it was microphone marvel Rakims inspiration for most of his lyrics.
