Eric B & Rakim's Twitter Page Deletes Tweets Criticizing Modern Rap

"You are now witnessing the devolution of rap music."

(AllHipHop News) This week, Eric B & Rakim's verified Twitter account felt the need to express feelings about the state of modern rap. The legendary Hip Hop group sent out two specific tweets about the "tragic" fall of the genre.

"You are now witnessing the devolution of rap music. The death of poetry and smoothness, they use this. The absence of a message. The inability to create meaningful change through words and verses, but the worse is, they don’t even know they hurt this artful purpose, it’s tragic," posted the Paid in Full album creators.

Then on Wednesday, the account returned to the platform to add, "You need to look real close at this previous tweet that’s reached almost 1 million people already and see what you read. It says 'rap' not 'hip hop.' If you don’t know the difference, you can’t make a difference. #KNOWtheLEDGE"

However, both tweets have now been deleted from the social media site. There was no explanation given for why the posts were removed, but the message did spark lively internet debates about current rap music.

It's true

Hip hop is the top saling of all other music...must be jealous

See "saling" is the root of the problem. Everybody makes music strictly as a hustle. Smokey Robinson didn't give one good eff about record sales. When its all about "selling" you'll do whatever to sell, like copy the styles of artist who have been successful "sellers". The result is a whole rap game sounding like the Migos.

Obviously, you don't KNOWtheLEDGE; the tweet says 'rap', not hip hop'. Hip Hop is a culture and rap is only a PART of that culture. Young folk need to get that knowledge on this art form that they pimpin, fuckin up and sellin out. Sales weren't a driving force until large labels got in the mix and separated and commodified Hip Hop culture. Eric B. and Rakim are right on with their tweet.
