(AllHipHop News) Freeway represents his hometown of Philadelphia down to his core.
But it was actually during the Jay-Z’s Made in America festival in his hometown in 2015 when he began to start feeling sick.
A week after his performance, the Think Free rapper ended up in the hospital where doctors informed him that his kidneys were failing.
For three years, Freeway, real name Leslie Pridgen underwent dialysis while waiting for a new kidney.
Over the weekend, Freeway was a part of the National Kidney Foundation's annual Kidney Walk.
Freeway did the first walk with his new kidney on Sunday, during the National Kidney Foundation’s annual Kidney Walk at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
“I feel like it’s my job and my duty to spread awareness so people won’t be in the same position that I was in," Freeway explained to The Philadelphia Tribune. My biggest thing is just being aware. If I would have (known), I would have taken different steps and made better choices so I wouldn’t have ended up in that position.”
Statistics reveal one in seven people in the United States are affected by kidney disease, so toast to Freeway and his health.
