GLAAD Blasts Azealia Banks Over Gay Slur Directed At Perez Hilton

(AllHipHop News) The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has issued a statement over controversial comments made by rapper Azealia Banks, during a Twitter dispute with celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.

Azealia Banks is an aspiring rapper, who gets more press for her controversial comments and feuds on the Internet, than she does for her music.

During her latest feud with female rapper Angel Haze, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton commented on the dispute.

Perez Hilton sided with Angel Haze in the feud, which apparently ticked off Azealia Banks, who made several off-color comments about his sexuality.

Azealia Banks labeled Perez Hilton a "messy fa**ot."

"Regardless of her intent or her personal definition, what matters is the meaning given to that word by those who hear it, and the damage it causes when they do," GLAAD said in a statement. "Undoubtedly there are gay kids who follow her on Twitter who hear this word in an entirely different context. This word is used almost universally by bullies, often as part of a larger verbal or physical assault. This word hurts those kids, no matter what Banks meant by it.

Azealia Banks later attempted to back pedal over the comments, saying that she was not referring to gay males.
