(AllHipHop News) Grandmaster Flash was among the artists to receive the prestigious Polar Music Prize in Stockholm, Sweden earlier this week.
The hip-hop pioneer was honored along with virtuoso violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, and Whitney Kroenke and Mark Johnson, founders of music and arts charity, the Playing for Change Foundation.
Taking the stage to accept the prize, Grandmaster Flash acknowledged his humble beginnings in New York's South Bronx neighborhood.
"Where I came from... music had no color," he shared. "Great music was just great music."
The ceremony was founded in 1992 by ABBA manager, music publisher and lyricist, Stig Anderson.
