The trap music pioneer picked up a "Moon Person" trophy for his collab with Fifth Harmony.

(AllHipHop News) Gucci Mane began his music career over a decade ago. As one of the pioneers of trap music, the southerner influenced an entire generation of rappers.

Surprisingly, Gucci had never been honored with an industry award over that time. The Mr. Davis album creator picked up his first trophy at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards for his contribution to "Down" by Fifth Harmony.

"I had never won an award, ever, That was my first award," Gucci told MTV News after winning the VMA for Best Pop Video. "I'm just thankful. To be at this stage in my career and have people still embrace and support my music, I'm just grateful."

Last year, the 37-year-old rhymer also got his first #1 on the Hot 100 as a guest on Rae Sremmurd's "Black Beatles." Gucci and his fiancee Keyshia Ka’oir are also set to star in the BET reality series The Main Event which premieres October 17.
