(AllHipHop News) Twenty-six years ago Eddie Murphy helped develop a film that starred himself, Halle Berry, Robin Givens, David Alan Grier, Martin Lawrence, Grace Jones, Tisha Campbell, Lela Rochon, Chris Rock, and Eartha Kitt. Boomerang is now being turned into a TV series.
BET announced a television version of the 1992 comedy is headed to the cable channel in 2019. Oscar winner Halle Berry and Emmy winner Lena Waithe are joining the production as executive producers.
“Excited to announce that [Lena Waithe], [BET], and I are bringing #Boomerang to the small screen! Cannot wait for you guys to see what’s coming - blessed to have Lena’s drive and ingenuity on this talented team!” wrote Berry on Instagram.
According to the network, Boomerang will be a continuation of the original story from the movie. The Reginald Hudlin-directed motion picture revolved around womanizing ad executive Marcus Graham (Murphy) attempting to balance his career and his love life.
For the BET show, the story will focus on the modern-day offspring of Graham and Angela Lewis (Berry). The new Boomerang was picked up for ten half-hour episodes.
“What you think about you bring about. And there are very few things I spent more time thinking about than BOOMERANG when I was a kid,” Waithe posted on IG.
She added, “To continue this story with [Ben Cory Jones], [Rishi Rajani], [Dime Davis], and [Halle Berry] by my side is truly a dream come true. Thank you [BET] and [Paramount Pictures] for trusting us with such a beloved film. We won’t let y’all down.”
