Some of the biggest
names in Hip-Hop will take part in Live 8, a concert that is being organized by
the founders of "Live Aid," the legendary 1985 benefit concert.

Diddy” Combs, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg Will Smith and 50 Cent are among the performers
on the line up for the massive concert on July 2, which will feature 60 of the
world’s most popular artists from all genres of music.
Bob Geldof, founder
of the original "Live Aid" concert, announced today (May 31) that
the concert will be hosted simultaneously in Philadelphia, Paris, London, Berlin
and Rome.
"What ‘Live
Aid’ did joyously, and enthusiastically, was open up the avenues of possibility,”
Geldof said at a press conference today. “’Live 8′ invites you to walk
down them.”
The massive concert
is timed to take place the day world leaders meet in Gleneagles, Scotland for
the G8 Summit.
At the press conference today, Geldof urged people to go to Scotland to call
attention to various humanitarian crises on the African Continent.
Geldof helped give
Hip-Hop a boost on a global level in 1985, when Run-DMC were the only rappers
performing on the bill, which was broadcast to an audience of 1.5 billion viewers.
