Ice-T Calls For DNA Test To Exonerate Pennsylvania Man Convicted Of 1980 Murder

A co-defendant in the case recanted his statement that implicated Leroy Evans.

(AllHipHop News) Kim Kardashian West is not the only celebrity that is using star power to help imprisoned people. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit actor Ice-T is trying to help free Leroy "June" Evans.

Despite a man named Anthony Jones admitting in 2016 to being the sole murderer of “Avon Lady” Emily Leo in 1980, Evans has still remained in prison since being convicted. His legal team is seeking a DNA test to prove the Chester, Pennsylvania native's innocence.

Last year, a judge denied Leroy's request to have DNA retrieved and examined in the case. Ice-T is backing up Evans by publicly calling on Delaware County District Attorney Katayoun Copeland to review evidence that could potentially exonerate Evans and reverse his life sentence.

"This is a very serious message. This is going out for Leroy Evans,” said Ice-T in a video message. “Leroy, from what I understand, has been in prison for 39 years for a crime that he didn't commit. Now all he is fighting for is DNA testing, but they refuse to test, even despite another man confessing to it.”

The Hip Hop legend added, “Come on DA, you know I’m not a real cop and I just play one on TV, but I think this man, after 39 years in prison, whatever the crime might be, deserves at least to get that DNA test so he can clear himself."
