Idris Elba Reportedly Replacing Will Smith As Deadshot In ‘Suicide Squad’ Sequel

The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.

(AllHipHop News) It looks like Idris Elba is going from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the DC Extended Universe. According to Variety, Warner Bros. Pictures selected the British actor to take over the role of Deadshot in the next Suicide Squad.

Will Smith played the assassin in the original Suicide Squad. The veteran Hollywood star was purportedly forced to turn down the sequel due to scheduling issues.

Elba's run in the MCU included appearances in the Thor trilogy and Avengers: Age of Ultron. His Heimdall character was killed in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War.

Suicide Squad 2 will include another Marvel Cinematic Universe transplant. Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker James Gun is writing and directing the DCEU motion picture. Plus, Margot Robbie and Viola Davis will be reprising their respective roles as Harley Quinn and Amanda Waller.
