Many representatives of Hip Hop culture have been critical of Elvis Presley. The late performer is often accused of culturally appropriating the artistic styles of Black artists like Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Big Mama Thornton, Bo Diddley, and others. On "Fight the Power," Chuck D famously rapped, "Elvis was a hero to most. But he never meant sh*t to me. Straight-up racist that sucker was, simple and plain."
There have been an influx of music-related biopics in recent years such as 2015's Straight Outta Compton (N.W.A), 2015's Miles Ahead (Miles Davis) 2017's All Eyez On Me (Tupac Shakur), 2018's Bohemian Rhapsody (Freddie Mercury), 2019's The Dirt (Mötley Crüe), and 2019's Rocketman (Elton John). Movies about Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley, Amy Winehouse, Teddy Pendergrass, Master P, and Céline Dion are said to be in the works.
