J. Cole Performs Michael Brown Tribute Song "Be Free" On Letterman (VIDEO)

COLE CONTINUES TO TAKE A PUBLIC STAND AGAINST RECENT POLICE KILLINGS

(AllHipHop News) J. Cole released his third studio album 2014 Forest Hills Drive this week, and the Roc Nation rapper stopped by The Late Show with David Letterman to hit the stage. But instead of performing a cut from his latest LP, Cole did a live rendition of his tribute song “Be Free.”

Cole dropped the song in August as a response to the shooting of Michael Brown at the hands of Ferguson, Missouri police officer Darren Wilson. The Letterman performance is the latest public response by J. Cole to Brown and other unarmed Black men being killed by cops.

The “Apparently” rhymer also participated in protests in Ferguson and in New York City. The latter was organized in response to NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo not being indicted for the choking death of Eric Garner.
