J.I.D. Talks Music, Movies & More On Red Bull Radio’s 'Bruh With Awful Records'

Find out why the southern wordsmith wants to follow in the footsteps of Ice Cube.

(AllHipHop News) Many people just discovered J.I.D. over the last few weeks. While 2017’s The Never Story album grabbed the attention of critics, the Dreamville representative became more familiar to casual rap fans thanks to his inclusion on the 2018 XXL Freshman Class cover.

For those interested in discovering more about the Atlanta native, Red Bull Radio'sBruh with Awful Recordsshow will air a conversation with J.I.D. today (June 22) at 6 pm ET. The Q&A features host Zack Fox chatting with the Spillage Village member about his family’s impact on his life, his tour with EarthGang, and wanting to be like Ice Cube.

“I want to write movies. We were talking about that. I don't want to have to literally depend on music to keep my financial stability. I know that's going to be the thing that everybody always comes back to,” J.I.D. reveals. “But I want to take my writing skills - because I'm great at writing and telling stories and sh-t - I want to take that beyond, like take that sh-t to Hollywood, sell scripts, and just be a part of good visual art as opposed to just sonically. So, I don't know. That's what I meant, bro. Just trying to be like Ice Cube. I love Ice Cube.”

He adds, “[Cube] wrote Friday... I don't want to be an actor though. I don't really care about being an actor. But, I want to be the writer. That's my thing.”

Previously, Fox interviewed Flying Lotus, Matt Martians, Sahbabii, Thundercat, Rico Nasty, The Cool Kids, and more. New episodes of Bruh With Awful Records premiere every fourth Friday of the month at 6 pm ET.

J.I.D. is currently working on his DiCaprio 2project. The body of work will be a sequel to the 2015 EP of the same name. In the meantime, he can be heard spitting bars in his XXL Freshman freestyle video below.
