Jaden Smith Discusses His 'The Sunset Tapes: A Cool Tape Story' Project

The Hip Hop scion breaks down the difference between 'Syre' and 'The Sunset Tapes.'

(AllHipHop News) Jaden Christopher Syre Smith made headlines last week after telling the Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival crowd that Tyler, The Creator was his boyfriend. There is still debate whether that announcement was just a troll job, but it did work to bring attention to the rapper/actor days before his new project dropped.

The Sunset Tapes: A Cool Tape Story arrived on November 17. Smith discussed the mixtape during his MSFTS Frequency show on Apple Music's Beats 1 radio.

Jaden stated, "The Sunset Tapes are really important to me because I'm obsessed with the sunset, and I need to watch the sunset every single day. I feel like it restarts my whole life when I watch the sunset. It's like I'm watching the world start over, and I just need the sunset for some reason, and it has this weird connection with relationships and love almost because it's like the sun sets, and then you're like, 'What do I do? Who am I gonna spend time with? It's dark now.' It's almost like programmed into humans where it's like, 'All right. It's dark. I need to find shelter. I need to find loved ones and food.'"

While 2017's Syre included features from A$AP Rocky and Raury, The Sunset Tapes is a Jaden only effort. The third installment in the Cool Tape series differed from Syre in another way, according to the Roc Nation representative.

"The sun never set for Syre. It just never sets because he can't take that next step of who's that person or who's that place, not so much about a place, but who's that person that can represent home to Syre," said Smith. "That's what the story's all about, and that's why the sun never sets, but this Sunset Tapes, this isn't really a Syre project necessarily."

He continued, "It's more a Jaden project. It's like you have Syre, you have Iris, but then you also have Jaden in the middle somewhere, and I feel like that's what the Sunset Tapes are. It's more of like me just being me, being honest. That's why I switch clothes in the music videos and stuff because it's showing my real life opposed to continuing the saga of Syre, but I will. I will continue it after Iris."
