(AllHipHop News) Jaden Smith is set to drop his latest body of work this week. The musician/actor will release his second studio album, ERYS, on July 5. The LP is the follow-up to 2017's SYRE.
Beats 1 Radio host Zane Lowe sat down with the 20-year-old performer to discuss his new project. Jaden explained how SYRE and ERYS represent the angel and devil on his shoulders. He also talked about some of the other artists he worked with for the new collection like his sister Willow Smith.
"If I have a serious album, Willow starts it off. If Willow doesn't start off the album, that means it's kind of a side project. She's always kicking off anything that's very important," said Jaden. "So I had to get in with Willow. Even after her bullying years. We saw past that, and she still kicks off my albums. I kicked her into the TV and she kicks off my album. Now we're just kicking it all the time."
Willow previously provided vocals for "B" on SYRE. Besides collaborating again with his younger sibling, the MSFTSMusic/Roc Nation representative also confirmed ERYS will feature songs with California's Tyler, The Creator (which Jaden says could be the album's most talked about track) and New York's A$AP Rocky.
"I have a song called 'Chateau with A$AP Rocky. And having Tyler and Rocky on the album is... This is my dream," declared Jaden. He added, "Everybody wants more from Flacko. He's just so fresh. He's just the coolest dude around, and no one can ever get enough of him, and that's how I feel. This verse that he does is insane, and I really think that people are really going to like it."
Jaden was especially excited to have his musical idol Kid Cudi on ERYS. His conversation with Lowe included the son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith sharing his history of creating music with the Hip Hop star born Scott Mescudi.
"The last person I have on the record is the craziest thing ever. I have Kid Cudi on the last song. Yeah. Something big. Cudi's my favorite artist. I could make it really simple. It goes so much deeper than music - fashion and just being yourself," said Jaden. "Something that people don't know is me and Cudi have been making songs together since before I released my first project. He's kind of been mentoring me my entire exploration through music. Literally, before I released Cool Tape Vol. 1, I had songs with Cudi."
Jaden continued, "He was telling me that I need to get better. He was telling me that I wasn't ready... Me and Cudi have three or four other songs. But they're all from when I was like twelve, fourteen, and sixteen. We weren't making them to put them out. I knew when I was twelve, I wasn't going to have a song with Cudi. I was okay to be like, 'Cudi, maybe not ERYS, but maybe the one after it, I'll be ready.' And he was like, 'No. It's time for us now.' And I was like, 'Oh my gosh!' That was such a big deal for me."
