(AllHipHop News) On February 22nd, Detroit clothing store Three Thirteen, the James D. Yancey Foundation and Los Angeles-based record label Delicious Vinyl will partner up to celebrate the life and legacy of J Dilla.
An exclusive pop-up event will be held in the late producer/rapper’s hometown of Detroit, Michigan.
Taking place at Three Thirteen clothing store, the event will display a limited-edition collection of merchandise that features J Dilla’s likeness/image and lyrics, including exclusive designs produced by Delicious Vinyl and Three Thirteen.
Proceeds from the event will go to the James D. Yancey Foundation.
J Dilla passed away on February 10, 2006 from complications of lupus.
His family has continued to build upon his legacy to raise funds and develop music programs and initiatives for youth in the United States.
In addition to this event, there are other great activities celebrating the rapper in his hometown including the 8th Annual Dilla Youth Day at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.
Lupus Detroit will be onsite to bring awareness of its mission to the event’s attendees and also raise money for the James D. Yancey Foundation’s Jay Walkers initiative and walk in May 2019.
“I am so very pleased to announce the renewal of the James Dewitt Yancey Foundation’s commitment to the fight against lupus. Lupus is the autoimmune disease that claimed the life of my son after 5 years of continuous hospital stays and a life of chronic pain 24/7," says Maureen "Ma Dukes" Yancey. "This disease took a toll on everything he would normally do. It also took a toll on his spirit. The one thing he managed to maintain without fail was his creative mind and love of music. The foundation was built to serve as a vehicle for information to the general population about this little-known disease at that time."
Three Thirteen x Delicious Vinyl J Dilla Pop-Up will be at Three Thirteen Clothing Store 19495 Livernois Ave, Detroit, Michigan.
The Three Thirteen x Delicious Vinyl Pop-Up is Friday, February 22, 2019 from 12 noon to 11pm and will feature live performances and DJ sets.
Some of the pieces from the limited-edition collection will be available online.
All proceeds from sales benefit the James D. Yancey Foundation @james_dewitt_yancey_foundation
