(AllHipHop News) The world may not ever get the Black Hippy album, but thankfully, there are plenty of collaborations between the four Top Dawg Entertainment emcees. For example, Jay Rock and Kendrick Lamar teamed up this year for "King's Dead" and "Wow Freestyle."
Both records live on Rock's Redemption album. During an interview with Ebro Darden for Beats 1, the Watts spitter talked about his working relationship with K. Dot.
"Our chemistry - like I tell people all the time - is like Kobe and Shaq when we're in that studio together. That's my little brother," said Rock, referring to the basketball tandem that won three championships together while with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Redemption also featured a guest appearance from another platinum-selling rap star; J. Cole shows up on the track titled "OSOM." Jay Rock broke down how they ended up collaborating for the record.
"I was in the studio. I just walked out to go get some snacks. I was eating at the table and just seen him walk through," Rock recalled. "Every time we run into each other he always tells me we gotta do something when the timing is right. So we exchanged numbers."
The TDE rep continued, "I sent him one record and he was like, 'It's dope.' Then I sent him 'Out of Sight Out of Mind' and he was like 'This the one, bro.' Like a week or two later, he sent back a 16."
