Jay-Z & Beyoncé Honor LGBTQ Community During GLAAD Vanguard Award Speech

"LGBTQI rights are human rights."

(AllHipHop News) The GLAAD Media Awards presented Beyoncé Knowles and Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter with the Vanguard Award on Thursday. The power couple was celebrated for supporting the LGBTQ community.

Jay used his acceptance speech in Los Angeles to praise his openly gay mother Gloria Carter. He previously addressed accepting Gloria's sexual orientation on his 4:44 track “Smile.”

The Roc Nation boss stated, "I get to follow in her footsteps of spreading love and acceptance, and her beautiful speech at the end of the song ‘Smile,’ and for allowing me to tell her story.” Beyoncé dedicated the Vanguard Award to an HIV-positive uncle that she called "the most fabulous gay man" she's ever known.

The "Formation" singer also acknowledged her husband, Jay, for "making incredible strides toward changing stigmas in the Hip Hop community." Knowles added, "LGBTQI rights are human rights."

Previous Vanguard Award honorees include Jennifer Lopez, Kerry Washington, Cher, Janet Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor, Antonio Banderas, Demi Lovato, Whoopi Goldberg, Eric McCormack, and Britney Spears.
