(AllHipHop News) In the latest episode of his Footnotes video series, Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter explains why he had to destroy his own ego.
Footnotes for Kill Jay Z features the Brooklyn-raised wordsmith addressing the concept behind the opening track on his #1 album 4:44.
"It's really about the ego, it's about killing off the ego so we can have this conversation in a place of vulnerability and honesty," says the legendary emcee. "Jay-Z, the public persona, couldn't have this conversation. He has to be eliminated, he has to be moved. So it's really Shawn Carter speaking to Jay-Z, and he has to convince him to move aside."
The 4:44 visual accompaniment also includes appearances by Anthony Anderson, Van Jones, Trevor Noah, Mahershala Ali, Michael Che, Chris Rock, and Charlamagne Tha God.
Previously, Hov released Footnotes for the Story Of O.J. and Footnotes for 4:44.
