This past Saturday night at the Hilton Midtown in New York, the 29th Annual GLAAD Media Awards honored the films, television shows and media personalities who hail at the forefront of LGBTQ representation in entertainment.
Many were honored among the star-studded crowd, including Ava DuVernay, Samira Wiley, and Jay-Z, whose award was accepted by his mom Gloria Carter.
As she took the stage to retrieve the Special Recognition Award, she delivered a touching, heartfelt speech thanking the man above, her son, and GLAAD.
She stated, ““Thanks to my family, for loving me unconditionally no matter what. Thanks to my partner for loving me and helping me free myself from being in the shadows. Thanks to all of the people whose lives I’ve touched for your support for just telling my truth.”
