(AllHipHop News) Too often, women in Hip Hop are not celebrated on the same level as their male counterparts. Despite what may be perceived as unbalanced coverage, female rappers have made big moves over the last 18 months.
Rapsody earned two Grammy nominations for her critically acclaimed album Laila's Wisdom. Plus, Nicki Minaj returned from a hiatus to earn a Top 10 hit with "Chun-Li."
Nicki, Rapsody, and Cardi's respective accomplishments are not going unnoticed. The Undefeated‘s Jemele Hill is among the people that appreciate the Hip Hop ladies' triumphs in art and branding.
“I think [the current class of female MCs] is strong. You have Nicki, you have Cardi B, you have Rapsody you have so many different female artists that there is an artist for every taste,” said Hill. “I enjoy the variety, I enjoy the fact that these women they don’t just see themselves as artists they see themselves as individual businesses and so I’m inspired by their creativity and their sense of empowerment.”
