The American territory is still without electricity following the damage of Hurricane Maria.

(AllHipHop News) Many of the people of Puerto Rico are still without power, and reports suggest the aftermath of Hurricane Maria could cause a dam to break. As a territory of the United States, the residents of Puerto Rico are American citizens.

Puerto Rican singer/actress Jennifer Lopez is stepping up to help the Caribbean island. On Sunday, the Shades of Blue star took part in a press conference about the tragic situation.

“Alex Rodriguez and I, who are both New Yorkers, are utilizing all our resources and relationships in entertainment, sports and business to garner support for Puerto Rico and the Caribbean relief efforts,” said Lopez.

She added, "We have two team planes filled with supplies and generators awaiting air clearance to depart, land, and unload these much-needed supplies in San Juan. And I will be donating $1 million from the proceeds of my Las Vegas show to the designated beneficiary charitable and NGO organizations."

Some observers on the ground in Puerto Rico described conditions as "apocalyptic." At least 10 people have died as a result of Hurricane Maria.

Good for her. Maybe her celebrity status will raise more awareness for Puerto Rico which desperately needs some help.

Good look.
