The influence of Hip-Hop on the music industry was recognized last night (June 27), at the 18th Annual ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Music Awards.
Jermaine Dupri and Alicia Keys snagged Songwriters of the Year Award and both won four awards each, while Ludacris and Kanye West won three each.
“My first big song was written 14 years-ago which was ‘Jump’ by Kris Kross,” Dupri told AllHipHop.com. “For me still be at the top of the game after all those years it feels good.”
The event honored ASCAP’s top publishers and songwriters on the 2004 Hip-Hop Rap and R&B Charts.
Other winners include Petey Pablo, 50 Cent, Twista, Timbaland, Scott Storch.
Dupri said he was already looking forward to taking the top honor at next year’s ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Music Awards.
“I got the #1 record in the country right now with Mariah [We Belong Together]. I got my Gucci award bag prepared for next year!”
