John Singleton Says ‘All Eyez On Me’ Filmmakers Stole The Movie Rights From Afeni Shakur

THE ACCLAIMED DIRECTOR STOPPED BY THE ‘DRINK CHAMPS’ PODCAST

(AllHipHop News) Acclaimed director John Singleton was a recent guest on N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN’s Drink Champs podcast.

Most of the conversation consisted of the Boyz n the Hood creator reflecting on his film career.

But N.O.R.E. also asked him about All Eyez On Me, the Tupac Shakur biopic that Singleton was once set to direct before Benny Boom took over the reins.

One of the topics surrounding AEOM that was discussed on Drink Champs was the allegation that Singleton wanted his version of the script to include a scene where Pac got raped.

“There’s a whole lot of things that they would not have in the movie that actually happened,” said Singleton.

When questioned if Tupac really got sexually assaulted, Singleton replied, “There’s a whole lot of things that happened. There’s stuff [about] who actually was involved in his death and the lead up to his death.”

Another revelation from Singleton concerning AEOM involved Pac’s mother Afeni Shakur.

“They stole the rights from his mother,” declared the Academy Award nominated filmmaker. “They made the movie they wanted to make, and hopefully one day I’ll get a chance to tell that story.”

AllHipHop.com interviewed All Eyez On Me producer L.T. Hutton in 2014, and he was asked if Afeni Shakur was involved in the making of the movie.

“She has a huge role. She has approval of a lot of things, and she wants the best portrayal of her son possible,” stated Hutton at the time. “She doesn’t have a problem with any of the truth. She just wants to make sure that everything was told correctly.”

Afeni Shakur passed away in May 2016 which was a little over one year before All Eyez On Me was released on June 16, 2017.
