Jonah Hill: Hype Williams Nearly Directed The ‘21 Jump Street’ Movie

The world only got one film from the visionary creator.

(AllHipHop News) Veteran actor Jonah Hill is currently taking part in a press run to promote his new movie Mid90s. The comedy-drama set in the 1990s is Hill’s feature directorial debut.

Genius caught up with the filmmaker to have him play “The 'Mid90s' Hip-Hop Quiz.” During a question about Missy Elliott’s “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)" music video, Hill revealed an entertainment industry legend almost directed another motion picture he was attached to in the past.

“Before Phil [Lord] and Chris [Miller] directed 21 Jump Street, I wanted Hype Williams to direct 21 Jump Street, and it didn’t work out,” stated Hill.

1998’s Belly is the only feature film in Hype Williams’ filmography. The MTV Video Vanguard Award winner did direct numerous music videos such as Missy’s “The Rain,” 2Pac’s “California Love,” Nas’ “Hate Me Now,” Kanye West’s “All Of The Lights,” and Beyoncé’s “Drunk In Love.”

Jonah Hill added, “The sequence where they’re in Jamaica in Belly is one of my favorite sequences in film."
