Juelz Santana Gets An Extra Month On The Streets

A judge granted the rapper more time to surrender for a prison stint.

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Juelz Santana has been granted an extra month of freedom before having to begin his prison sentence relating to an airport gun case.

The Diplomats star, real name LaRon James, was initially ordered to surrender to authorities on January 30 to begin serving his 27-month punishment for gun possession.

He filed court papers in New Jersey this week seeking to delay the deadline until the end of February.

In his request, Santana's lawyers argued the MC had not been given adequate notice of his prison start date, arguing he needed the extra time to tie up his business and personal affairs.

He also asked for permission to travel to Georgia to shoot footage with moviemaker Tyler Perry related to reality show "Love & Hip Hop: New York," on which he and his new wife, Kimbella Vanderhee, are cast members.

A New Jersey federal judge granted Santana's requests, and pushed back his date of surrender to February 28, ruling he must turn himself into a prison in Virginia before noon.

Santana was sentenced in December, nine months after security officials at Newark Liberty International Airport found a loaded handgun and non-prescribed Oxycodone pills in a carry-on bag containing Santana's identification.

He dodged a lengthy prison term by pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and carrying a weapon onto an aircraft, and he was ordered to serve just over two years.

He will also be placed on supervised release for 12 months after he completes his term.
