Kanye West Makes Good On Rant; Sues Roc-A-Fella & EMI Over Contract, Publishing

Last October, Kanye ranted about the corporate masters who own his masters and now he's following up with a lawsuit.

(AllHipHop News) Kanye West is following through on earlier threats to regain control of his earlier masters and his music publishing.

Kanye just filed a lawsuit against Jay Z's old record label Roc-A-Fella Records, Island Def Jam Records and EMI Publishing.

At issue are the "parties" rights to his music, in addition to his obligations to both companies under his current agreements.

Last October, Kanye posted a video complaining that Sony ATV (which owns EMI), will not allow him to buy back his publishing, for the quoted price of “$8 or $9 million dollars.”

He didn’t go into detail about the reason why, but he called out “Big Jon” (Big Jon Platt) and “Marty” (Martin Bandier) about getting his publishing back and that he has the money to buy himself out of his contracts.
