(AllHipHop News) It's been 15 years since Kanye West released his "Jesus Walks" single. Throughout that time, the Chicago-raised rapper has referred to religion and faith on other occasions.
It is fair to assume that many of West's fans believed he was a follower of Jesus Christ since at least 2004. However, the 42-year-old recording artist recently told a crowd in Washington, DC that he just claimed Jesus as his savior within the last 10 months.
"I want to let you guys know that I am not here for your entertainment this afternoon. We're here to spread the gospel," said West at George Washington University's Lisner Auditorium. He added, "Excuse me if I mispronounce anything. I am a recent convert. It means I recently got saved within this year."
Over the weekend, Kanye also held his Sunday Service on the campus of Howard University for the HBCU's homecoming. He was met with mixed reactions for his performative spiritual event. Plus, Ye once again made comments about slavery during the Sunday Service at HU. West faced significant backlash in 2018 for suggesting the American-form of chattel slavery was a choice made by the Africans in bondage.
