Back in September, hip-hop publication XXL announced that after 17 years they would no longer release print editions of the their magazine. Like many other magazines, it was reported that they had chosen to have a strictly digital format. The G-Unit crew was chosen as their last cover stars as readers bid farewell and celebrated their legacy.
XXL is now putting those reports to rest and is releasing a winter issue that will appear on newsstands with Kendrick Lamar gracing the cover. For this cover story, they decided to switch things up a bit. Instead of having him be interviewed and written about, the good kid penned the cover story himself.
"Kendrick crafted his own story for XXL titled Writer At War, where he explores his experience with his extraordinary fame, the impact he has had on his fans (and vice versa), the process in which he records, his overall mind state after two years on the road and so much more," the magazine said.
