Kendrick Lamar Leads The Pack For 2019 Grammy Award Nominations

Hip Hop dominates with Drake, Boi-1da, Cardi B, Childish Gambino, and Sounwave also collecting top noms.

(AllHipHop News) In a year where Kendrick Lamar didn't even release a solo studio album, he was still the most nominated act for the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. K. Dot picked up 8 nods, including Album Of The Year for Black Panther: The Album.

The Compton emcee's Black Panther track "All The Stars" with SZA obtained noms for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Song Written For Visual Media, and Best Rap/Sung Performance. Lamar was also listed in the Best Rap Performance ("King's Dead") and Best Rap Song ("King's Dead" & "Win") categories.

Drake is right behind Kendrick with 7 nominations. The OVO superstar's Scorpion is also in the Album Of The Year race. His #1 smash "God's Plan" was nominated for Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year.

In addition, Drizzy made it into several rap categories. His "God's Plan" producer Matthew "Boi-1da" Samuels got 6 nominations. Boi-1da is contending for the Producer of the Year, Non-Classical award. Folk rocker Brandi Carlile was nominated six times too.

Entertainment Weekly's "Entertainers Of The Year" recipients Cardi B and Childish Gambino both racked up five nominations. Gambino's "This Is America" is vying for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Cardi's "I Like It" gained a Record of the Year nod. Her debut LP Invasion of Privacy was nominated for Album Of The Year and Best Rap Album.

Studio engineer Mike Bozzi (Black Panther: The Album, Post Malone's Beerbongs & Bentleys) and Top Dawg Entertainment in-house producer Mark "Sounwave" Spears (Black Panther: The Album) were nominated five times each. Both behind-the-scenes music creators netted nods for Album Of The Year.

Kendrick Lamar has won 12 Grammy Awards during his career. He currently holds the all-time record for most nominations in a single night for a Hip Hop artist (11 in 2016). Drake has won 3 Grammys. Childish Gambino is a one time winner. Cardi B and Boi-1da have yet to take home a golden gramophone.
