(AllHipHop News) Lil Nas X received permission to include Kurt Cobain's music on his latest genre-mixing track from the Nirvana frontman's daughter.
The star's "Panini,".which debuted on Thursday, features a sample from Nirvana's "In Bloom," which featured on the band's iconic 1991 album Nevermind.
Cobain is listed as a writer for the song, alongside the "Old Town Road" hitmaker, and he reveals he received a final blessing from Frances Bean Cobain before he used the track, tweeting a "thank you" to the 26-year+old.
In an interview with Apple Music Beats 1, the hip-hop star reveals he had never listened to Nevermind before recording his new song.
"A lot of songs will even come to me like I’m sleeping or something, like, a melody and I’m like, 'Wow, that’s fly," he says, "but the craziest thing about Panini is it introduced me to Nirvana’s album, Nevermind.
"It’s like I always seen the cover but I never actually listened to it. And people was like, 'Wow, he sampled Nirvana'. I was like, 'No, it’s like I didn’t realize I was using almost the exact same melody'. I’ve been listening to it a lot lately, actually."
Meanwhile, Lil Nas X's breakout hit, "Old Town Road," featuring country star Billy Ray Cyrus, has become only the 38th hit in U.S. Billboard chart history to lead the Hot 100 for 10 weeks or more.
