(AllHipHop News) Over the weekend, Kyrie Irving decided to write an Instagram message to his ex-girlfriend Kehlani. The post included the Boston Celtics player offering a "long overdue" apology.
Back in 2016, Kehlani was heavily trolled online after accusations that she cheated on Kyrie with PartyNextDoor spread across the internet. Irving is now setting the record straight by stating that Kehlani never cheated on him, and he called on his supporters to stop harassing the R&B singer.
MTV News caught up with Kyrie on the red carpet at the 2018 MTV Movie + TV Awards. The 26-year-old NBA All-Star explained his defense of the SweetSexySavage album creator.
"I'm just protecting a close friend of mine," said Irving. "She’s an incredible person, and I don’t ever want to see anyone do anything harmful in her way. I heard from her and other people that people are coming to her shows and doing just really obnoxious things."
He continued, "I don’t ever want to see anyone go through that, especially a female like that, and she’s incredibly special. I want the focus to be on her, her career, and that’s it."
