(AllHipHop News) Yet another billionaire philanthropist is associated with the REFORM Alliance. Attorney Laura Arnold is the newest founding partner of the organization that is fighting to change the laws, policies, and practices that perpetuate injustice in America.
As the co-chair of Arnold Ventures - along with her husband John Arnold - Laura Arnold has been committed to criminal justice reform by offering $250 million in grants toward research and advocacy efforts. The Yale Law School graduate is now making a multimillion-dollar contribution to REFORM.
"America needs bold, visionary, systemic change to its criminal justice system,” states Arnold. “The kind of change that doesn’t settle for tweaks to the status quo, but asks instead how we would design our system if we had the chance to do it over, in the smartest and fairest ways possible.
The former clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit continued, "REFORM shares this vision, and is importantly led by people with diverse political perspectives and people with direct experience in the criminal justice system. Arnold Ventures is proud to support them."
REFORM Alliance partners include Hip Hop artist Robert "Meek Mill" Williams (Co-Chair), Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin (Co-Chair), CNN political contributor Van Jones (CEO), Hip Hop mogul Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter (Founding Partner), New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft (Founding Partner), Vista Equity Partner CEO/Chairman Robert Smith (Founding Partner), and others.
"We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Laura as a founding partner,” says Rubin. “Her passion and experience will be critical to achieving our goal to free at least one million people who are unfairly trapped in the criminal justice system by 2023 while keeping communities safe."
Meek Mill made an appearance on an episode of the Deep Dive with Laura Arnold podcast. The conversation included the two criminal justice advocates discussing the challenges affecting millions of Americans on probation as well as the creation of the REFORM Alliance.
“Laura is one of the leading minds and mobilizers on criminal justice reform and we’re fortunate to have her on our team,” adds Van Jones. “Her addition to our founding board will strengthen our platform and bring more experience in this fight. Together, we’ll continue driving the national conversation around reform and inspiring people to take action through public advocacy.”
