After George Floyd’s death on May 25 while in police custody, Lil Baby released his protest song “The Bigger Picture.” The Atlanta rapper has gone beyond just music when it comes to uplifting the Floyd family this year.

According to reports, Baby partnered with former NBA player Stephen Jackson, to help throw a surprise birthday party for Floyd’s 7-year-old daughter, Gianna. They both worked with Restaurant Ten and Rosie’s Café owners, Ericka and William Platt, to plan the celebration.

Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal was also in attendance. Photos from the party inside Atlanta’s Pink Hotel were posted on Gianna Floyd’s official Instagram page. One of the posts’ caption reads, “Thank you so much @lilbaby_1 for coming and help me celebrate my 7th Birthday.”

46-year-old George Floyd was killed when Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for nearly 9 minutes. Jackson, a longtime friend of Floyd, led Black Lives Matter protests against police brutality over the summer.

Chauvin was eventually charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter. Three other officers involved in the situation – Tou Thao, Thomas Lane, and J. Alexander Kuen – were charged with aiding and abetting murder. All four defendants are tentatively set to go to trial on March 8, 2021.
