Lil Nas X Admits To Sometimes Going "Too Far" As A Pre-Fame Internet Troll

The "Rodeo" rhymer talks about changing the way he interacts on social media.

(AllHipHop News) After Lil Nas X became the biggest breakout star of 2019, reports surfaced suggesting the "Old Town Road" performer used to post as @NasMaraj on Twitter. LNX never confirmed he was the person behind the controversial account, but the Columbia recording artist is now speaking out about his previous online activity.

"I do try to stay positive online,” Lil Nas told Paper magazine. "I’ll ask myself, ‘Is this going to offend somebody?’ before I do it. A lot of the stuff I used to do years before would sometimes go too far. I know I have a platform now, so there’s more of a need to make sure nothing is hurtful or too crazy."

The 20-year-old rap rookie continued, "Even dealing with mean people, I can do it because I understand them. I used to sometimes say mean sh*t for no reason. I know that when people say things they're just thoughts that might be there today but I'm not going to care about tomorrow. What am I even gaining from acknowledging it?"

Lil Nas X has been on the other side of mean tweets in recent months. Detractors were quick to label him as a one-hit-wonder, homophobes trolled LNX for coming out as gay, and Nicki Minaj's fans blasted the alleged ex-Barb for recording a song with Nicki's rival Cardi B.

In contrast, Lil Nas also received plenty of support for his music career and the decision to announced his sexual orientation. "Old Town Road" has been the #1 single on the Hot 100 chart for a record-extending 18 weeks. He is also up for 8 nominations at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, including Video Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best New Artist.
