The teenager reportedly went from Twitter meme maker to "Old Town Road" hitmaker.

(AllHipHop News) Montero Lamar Hill is one of the hottest young rappers in music at the moment. The Atlanta-raised rhymer, better known as Lil Nas X, took over the internet with his breakout hit "Old Town Road," one of the most streamed records in America.

The remix version of the single featuring Country legend Billy Ray Cyrus hit streaming services on Friday, and the song is expected to compete for the #1 spot on next week's Hot 100 chart. LNX's seemingly overnight success has many listeners still discovering his music and his story.

Beats 1's Hanuman Welch recently spoke with the rising entertainer for Apple Music. Lil Nas X was asked how he came up with his stage name which many fans assumed was a fusion of Lil Wayne, Nas, and DMX/XXXTentacion.

"It's been my internet alias for a minute, like Nas. The X wasn't included at first. It was just Lil Nas. It was Lil Nas because when I first started rapping I wasn't as serious so it was like, 'Okay, every rapper's name is starting with Lil lately.' So I kind of got stuck with it," he explained. "I added the X later on after I was more serious. It would stand for the amount of years, I felt, until I'm at the status where I'm considered legendary."

The 19-year-old southerner continued, "Everybody's like, 'Why is his rap name a culmination of every big rapper?' It wasn't intentional at all. We're here now, so..." Lil Nas X was reportedly once behind the now-suspended viral Nicki Minaj fan account/troll account @NasMaraj on Twitter.
