(AllHipHop News) Thanks to his advertising spot with Apartments.com, Lil Wayne shined as one of the biggest stars on Super Bowl Sunday. Weezy then continued his popular commercial streak by appearing in three much talked about ads for Samsung. Adweek spoke with Wayne about his recent turns as a commercial actor.
The Young Money leader mentioned his excitement to participate in more advertising. He hopes the success of the Apartments.com and Samsung commercials will lead to Madison Avenue reaching out for more opportunities to serve as a TV pitchman.
"I tried to do what they wanted me to do and not do Lil Wayne. I took that away from the situation and approached the scene as if I was just the guy that they chose to play this role," said Wayne. "With that said, I did it that way because of course I could've approached it like I'm me and I'm going to say it how I want to say it and how my fans and what they're expecting to see out of me and I didn't do that. So I approached it like I want to do this [appear in ads] more so that whoever is watching would be able to say, 'I like what he did and we could probably use him for this.'"
Wayne especially took pride in starring in a commercial that ran during the Super Bowl. The self-professed die-hard sports fanatic was able to reach an audience of over 100 million people tuned into the big game.
"That was dope. That was the illest idea ever. You know everybody watches the Super Bowl," stated the "Lollipop" performer. "I know people who don't even know what football is and they're going to watch the Super Bowl for the commercials and for me to be involved in that, if I can't perform at halftime then I'm going to be in commercials."
The recent rise of Lil Wayne as the face of consumer products on the small screen comes after PepsiCo cut ties with him in 2013 over perceived offensive lyrics. Wayne's lines about the late Emmett Till on Future's “Karate Chop (Remix)” led to the end of his association with Mountain Dew. After the controversy, Wayne pledged to be careful on what he raps about.
