Janet Jackson and Rage Against the Machine were among the nominees too.

(AllHipHop News) The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its list of nominees for the 2019 induction class. James "LL Cool J" Smith will have the chance to become the seventh Hip Hop act enshrined in the museum.

If LL Cool J is voted into the Hall, he will join fellow rap legends Run-D.M.C., Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, N.W.A., and Tupac Shakur. This is Smith's fifth time being nominated.

LL was one of the earliest rappers to achieve mainstream success. Last year, the Queens, New York native became the first Hip Hop artist to be named a Kennedy Center Honors recipient.

Pop/R&B megastar Janet Jackson is also in contention for the Rock Hall's '19 class. In addition, Def Leppard, Devo, John Prine, Kraftwerk, MC5, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Roxy Music, Stevie Nicks, The Cure, Todd Rundgren, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, and the Zombies are among the nominees as well.

Fans can take part in selecting the finalists by voting at RockHall.com. Voting begins today (October 9) and runs through December 9. The official induction ceremony for the 2019 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class is scheduled for March 29, 2019.
