LL Cool J To Receive W.E.B. DuBois Medal

Veteran rap star LL Cool J is about to receive a prestigious award from Harvard University.

(AllHipHop News) Rapper/actor LL Cool J and filmmaker Ava Duvernay have been unveiled as the 2017 recipients for Harvard University's W.E.B. Du Bois medals.

The school's annual accolades, named after the famed civil rights activist, celebrate those who have made significant contributions to African and African-American history and culture.

Artist Kara Walker will also be among those recognized in the Class of 2017, and feted at the Hutchins Center Honors on October 4 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Previous recipients of the W.E.B. Du Bois medal include Oprah Winfrey, Maya Angelou, boxing icon Muhammad Ali, rapper Nas, and actress Pam Grier, who was honored in 2016.

It's the second big award for LL Cool J this year) - he also made history last month when he was named among the 2017 Kennedy Center honorees, making him the first rapper to receive the prestigious cultural accolade.
