'Luke Cage' Creator Cheo Coker Talks KRS-One And Rakim Contributing To The Show

The serial program returns to Netflix on June 22.

(AllHipHop News) In case you were unaware, Marvel's Luke Cage is engulfed in Hip Hop themes. Episodes of the show are named after songs by Pete Rock & CL Smooth and Gang Starr. Additionally, Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad composed the soundscape for the series.

Two of the most celebrated emcees of all time are taking part in season two. Luke Cage creator/producer Cheo Hodari Coker spoke with AllHipHop about the stand-out new additions.

"I can't think of a single other moment where I get to be the Hip Hop geek that I am, just off music alone, get to be a geek-geek on the comic book stuff, get to meld both sensibilities, and get to be part of creating a show about Luke Cage where I get to have KRS-One and Rakim on the show and have Rakim do a song about Luke Cage," said Coker.

He continued, "This is the kind of stuff you would think about and you'd be like, 'How would I sell this idea? Or how would I get this to happen?' So the fact this is actually happening, for me, is absolutely amazing."

Mike Colter stars as the titular character of Luke Cage. The cast also includes Rosario Dawson, Simone Missick, Alfre Woodard, Theo Rossi, Chaz Lamar Shepherd, and Mustafa Shakir. Viewers can expect cameos by Ghostface Killah, Jadakiss, Faith Evans, Gary Clark Jr., Esperanza Spalding, Stephen Marley, and more.
