(AllHipHop News) September 7 marks one year since the loss of Malcolm "Mac Miller" McCormick. The late emcee's longtime deejay, CLOCKWORKDJ, is hosting a benefit in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania in honor of his friend.
According to a press release, Karen and Mark McCormick support the charitable affair. Donations will go to the Mac Miller Fund with Chinga Chang Records contributing $19.92 for every $1 donated by attendees.
Rabbi Yisroel Altein of Chabbad Pittsburgh will present a short incantation during the vigil. Miller's live performances and videos will be screened as well. Chinga Chang is hoping the event becomes an annual celebration of Malcolm McCormick's life and music.
A separate fan-organized commemoration was set to take place at Pittsburgh's Blue Slide Park on the 7th. However, lack of permits reportedly forced that gathering to be moved to September 6. Chinga Chang founder Dan Herman put together the Penn Hills memorial as a way for Mac Miller devotees traveling from other cities to still meet together on the day of his death.
The Mac Miller benefit is scheduled for September 7 at The Spot Etc. The Mac Miller Fund supports programming, resources, and opportunities to youth from underserved communities.
Before his passing, Mac Miller released Blue Slide Park, Watching Movies with the Sound Off, GO:OD AM, The Divine Feminine, and Swimming. His breakout mixtape, K.I.D.S., will become available on streaming services for the first time later this year.
