MF Doom Collaborator Suffers Stroke

Jneiro Jarel is in the hospital and needs help with medical bills.

(AllHipHop News) Rapper MF Doom's longtime collaborator Jneiro Jarel is recovering after suffering a "massive" stroke.

The artist and producer, who has also worked with Damon Albarn, Massive Attack, and TV on the Radio, was in Costa Rica with his wife, actress Indigo, last month when he fell ill.

Jarel, real name Omar Jarel Gilyard, was hospitalized for treatment, and although he is on the road to recovery, he is yet to get back on his feet and requires "round the clock, skilled nursing assistance," according to a GoFundMe campaign Indigo launched online this week.

In the fundraising post, Indigo explained she only decided to go public with the health crisis after realizing how urgent their situation was.

Medical insurance officials would only foot the bill for hospital expenses for 11 days and have yet to offer help to transport Jarel back to his native U.S.

She had aimed to raise $10,000 to fly Jarel back home for "his required inpatient treatment and post-stroke rehabilitation," but in less than 24 hours, the goal had been surpassed, with donations also coming from "Moonlight" star Mahershala Ali, who pledged $2,000 to the cause.

Indigo has yet to comment on the huge show of support.
