Mick Jenkins Says XXL Consistently Gets It Wrong With Freshmen Cover List (VIDEO)

DID THE MAGAZINE GET IT WRONG IN 2015? THE RAPPER SAYS YES

(AllHipHop News) Every year fans of the culture debate about which emcees were snubbed on XXL‘s coveted Freshmen Class list. For 2015, Mick Jenkins was often named as one person that rightfully deserved to be on the magazine’s cover.

Jenkins gained a lot of attention for his critically acclaimed 2014 mixtape The Water[s]. The success of the project – as well as signing to Cinematic Music Group (Big K.R.I.T, Joey Bada$$) and going on tour with Method Man and Redman – had many people expecting him to be one of the 10 picks for the ’15 Freshmen Class.

The Chicago representative was recently interviewed by Montreality, and he was asked about the XXL omission. Mick made it clear he felt the publication got it wrong with some of its choices.

“I think there’s a ton of people who deserved to be there based on what they did last year, and I think there’s some people who don’t,” said Jenkins. “It’s been shown to us every year that it’s not based on what we think it’s based on. It’s not based on just talent. It’s not based on just popularity. It’s not based on what it should be, for sure. It’s not really a surprise when things don’t turn out how they should.”

The “Dehydration” rhymer went on to say that he does not really care that much about being on the cover. Jenkins is more concerned about connecting with his fans. His followers can hopefully expect his album [T]he [H]ealing [C]omponent to hit stores by next summer.
