(AllHipHop News) Many Hip Hop heads have been campaigning for MTV to honor Missy Elliott with the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. The network has finally selected the Songwriters Hall of Famer for the 2019 honor.
"Missy’s impact on the music landscape is indelible,” said Bruce Gillmer, Executive Vice President of Talent and Music Programming/Events at MTV parent's company Viacom. "Her creative vision across production, performance and songwriting is unmatched.”
Throughout her three-decade career, Missy created groundbreaking visuals such as "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)," "Get Ur Freak On," and "Lose Control." The Virginia-bred singer-songwriter's "Work It" won Video Of The Year at the 2003 Video Music Awards.

The list of previous Video Vanguard Award recipients includes Michael Jackson, Madonna, Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Hype Williams, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Rihanna, Pink, and Jennifer Lopez. MTV's 2019 VMAs are scheduled for August 26. Hip Hop acts like Lil Nas X, 21 Savage, Cardi B, Drake, Lizzo, 2 Chainz, and Travis Scott earned nominations for the event set for Newark's Prudential Center.
