(AllHipHop News) The 2019 MTV VMAs are scheduled to air on August 26 from the Prudential Center in Newark. Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, Bad Bunny, Lil Nas X, and Lizzo are among the acts scheduled to perform at this year's ceremony.
In celebration of the upcoming show, MTV took a look back at some of the most memorable performances from previous Video Music Awards. The network's YouTube channel published a video titled "Top 10 #VMA Mic Drop Performances."
Kanye West's "Runaway" (2010), Kendrick Lamar's "HUMBLE./DNA." (2017), and Eminem's "The Real Slim Shady" (2000) all made the list. Not surprisingly, the #1 spot went to the most awarded artist in VMA history.
Beyoncé's epic 16-minute medley of songs off her Lemonade album at the 2016 Video Music Awards topped Britney Spears's 'Slave 4 U' from 2001. Queen Bey's set featured renditions of "Pray You Catch Me," "Hold Up," "Sorry," "Don't Hurt Yourself," and "Formation."
That was also the night Beyoncé passed Madonna's record of 20 career MoonMan trophies. With 8 wins in 2016, Bey's career total of Video Music awards rose to 26. She won "Video Of The Year," "Best Female Video," and "Best Pop Video" for "Formation."
Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift lead the 2019 nominations with twelve each. Lil Nas X earned 8 nods, including a Video Of The Year nomination for "Old Town Road" featuring Billy Ray Cyrus. Missy Elliott will be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and the Hip Hop icon will perform.
