Nicki Minaj Calls Out Fashion Magazines For Racist Edits
(AllHipHop News) Rapper Nicki Minaj has accused fashion magazine editors of altering her image in a bid to whitewash her looks.
The Trinidadian-American "Super Bass" hitmaker has been featured on the cover of some of the top publications in the world, such as Allure, Marie Claire, Billboard, Elle, and Cosmopolitan, but the star is less than impressed with the way she is presented most of the time and she took to Twitter on Thursday to express her distaste.
"For years, fashion mags would change my hair for their covers but allow women of a diff (sic) race to wear the exact style on the cover," Nicki lamented on the micro-blogging site.
A fan responded to the tweet in an attempt to comfort Nicki, writing: "Talk about shade they can't-do it now cause you a #Queen," but the hip-hop beauty insisted in her reply that nothing has changed.
"Actually, they're (editors) still doing it babe," she wrote, signing off on the message with an exasperated emoji.
Nicki has been critical of the appropriation of black culture in fashion and entertainment several times in the past, but during New York Fashion Week festivities earlier this month, she took the time to praise designer Philipp Plein for including a diverse range of models in his runway show.
“Thank you, Philipp Plein, for including our (black) culture,” she told the crowd, according to the New York Post. “Designers get really big and really rich off of our culture, and then you don’t see a motherf##ker that look anything like us in the front row half the time. So let’s make some noise for Philipp Plein tonight.”
Nicki was the guest performer at the German designer's show, which was attended by 50 Cent, Paris Hilton, and Ne-Yo.
