(AllHipHop News) Hip Hop artist Proof passed away in 2006 after being shot four times at local billiards club. The death of the D12 member sent shock waves through the Detroit rap scene as fellow Motor City rappers like Eminem and Obie Trice had to come to grips that the 32-year-old emcee lost his life too soon.
Obie sat down with VladTV to talk about Proof's killing. The former Shady Records signee still feels that the information surrounding the altercation that led to Proof getting shot is murky.
"They say Proof shot [first], but I don't know if that story's true," says Obie. "A lot of fabrication going on with the story. I don't really know what's true and what's not."
One account of the situation was that Proof shot a man named Keith Bender after an argument at the club, and then Bender's cousin Mario Etheridge, a bouncer at the location, then shot Proof. Another witness that night said both Proof and Bender were shot and killed by Etheridge after a fight broke out between the two. Etheridge was not convicted of murder because it was determined that he acted in self-defense.
According to Obie, the entire altercation sparked a series of murders throughout Detroit.
"A lot of s**t happened after that. A lot of people ended up getting killed," says "The Setup" performer. "That's just how it is though."
